Come enjoy Alexandria’s Festival of the Arts, taking place this weekend in Old Town. This event has been taking place for the past eight years and is extremely popular with visitors and locals. This festival is a two day event, September 11-12 from 10am to 7pm on Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

Many art booths will be lined up along 6 blocks of King Street, (between S. Washington Street and the waterfront). More than 200 artists will be displaying and selling their unique artwork. There will also be hands on activities for children and adults, as well as art demonstrations and a ceramic fundraiser. The festival is free and open to the public. On Saturday, 8/28, Fox News commentator, Glenn Beck, along with Sarah Palin will be hosting a rally, “Restoring Honor.” This event will take place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The date of the event also strikes the 47th year anniversary for Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream Speech,” also given at the Lincoln Memorial.

Other speakers attending the event include representatives from SOWF, Dr. Alveda King and Marcus Luttrell. Country star, Jo DEE Messina will also be performing.

This rally is not political; as it is directed towards honoring America’s heroes and individuals, “who embody our nation’s founding principals of integrity, truth and honor.”

Many guests staying here at the Old Colony Inn plan on attending this event along with an expected 300,000 other people from all over the country.

Elm Street Rod Run

This event will be held on September 24-25. Registration opens at 8am Saturday. There is an early night cruise in on the 24th starting at 7 pm. The Elm Street Rod Run will include Rods, Customs, Bikes, Cuschmans, and Classics. It is held at the 100 year old Ford Dealership which has been renovated and now houses a fabulous collection of 40’s and 50’s classic advertising memorabilia, cars, and nostalgic Americana. There will be an Entry Fee of $20. There will be awards giving out at 3:30 pm. There will be tropheys for the top 25 cars.
