May 23rd, 2007La Porte Police Officers Remember Their Own
LA PORTE, TX (May 23, 2007) The La Porte Police Department sponsored a benefit for Sergeant Lay. He passed away from cancer within the month of May.
Robert Gallion and Allen Gudell fired up the pits and started smoking briskets at around 3:00 PM on May 23rd and continued smoking 150 briskets until Friday, May 25th.
The two cooks were given a room at the Comfort Suites La Porte where they could go inside and clean up for a moment’s relaxation in the air conditioning.
Though tired after the event the Police Department managed to raise over four thousand dollars for the widow of Sergeant Lay. The Comfort Suites La Porte would like to congratulate them for a tremendous effort.
